Where do your press release links actually go? Usually not straight to you. We checked hundreds of them.
We audited the links on 240 pickup pages. All 720 destination links were marked nofollow or sponsored. And none of 450 pointed directly at the company's website. They went through the wire's redirect.
Google says it generally won't follow links marked like that. So a release spreads the news, but it doesn't build your site.
The good news: pickups stay up. All 1,159 pickup pages were still live, 4 to 75 days later. So make every release point to pages worth landing on.
Three steps. One: link to an identity page, an evidence page and a contact path you own. Two: use durable URLs. Three: keep those pages current.
Every release should lead back to you.
